Write it Down

If you spend it, then write it down. This sounds like hard work, and it is hard work. Budgeting is probably the singly most difficult task we can perform.

Budgeting means analyzing the truth about yourself and your habits. It's a great way of sifting out all those nasty habits and vices you've been hanging on to.

If you want to budget and do it well, then first and foremost you will need to be honest with yourself. This may sound a little harsh and it will be tough psychologically, especially if you have habits like smoking, nibbling or beer drinking.

One method to be honest with yourself is to sit down with your partner or good friend. Make a list of all those things you spend money on and write it down. And I mean everything.

You'll be surprised at how much money you actually spend everyday on incidentals:

  • $2 dollars here
  • $5 dollars there
  • the pack of sweets
  • the macchiato
  • the cigarettes
  • that beer
  • the in between snack
  • the bus ticket
  • the newspaper, magazine, haircut, shoe shine, waiter's tip, the list is endless.

Get a small notebook and every time you spend money on something, write it down. This means being focused. It will require work and discipline. If you're not prepared to this and you're in debt, then you'll continue to wear the shackles of debt. You'll work hard at your job and all your hard earned cash will go to your creditors.

Invest In Yourself

You already work hard to earn your money. so invest a little time and effort into doing a little hard work for yourself and write it down and you will most definitely reap the benefits and opportunities will open themselves to you.

You'll need to write it down for at least a month. Once you've compiled all your monthly expenses in your note pad, the next step will be to put these expenses into categories, then transfer the totals for each category into a budget worksheet.

Don't worry when you get a shock when you see how much money you're throwing out the window on useless articles and 'bad' debt. This is just the beginning. The process of writing it down, is to give you clarity in what you're doing with your finances.

The clarity will help you focus on the positive and will free your thoughts up from chatter and worry about money. You can then begin the process of rewiring your neurons in your brain to think that your debts are paid in full.

How do you do that, you may ask? Well, you write it down. Take an exercise note pad with lines and write out the following statements a hundred times:

"I am so happy and grateful now, that money comes to me in increasing amounts, from multiple streams of income, on a continual basis".

Say it out loud as you're doing the exercise. After you've done it twenty times or more, the statement will engrave an impression on your mind so great that you will begin to believe in it.

And you know what happens to the things we believe in, don't you. They eventually come true. Now imagine what would happen to your life if you repeated the same exercise every day for 90 days without failure.
